mine makes strange noises at idle as well... sort of sounds almost like a grinding sound though... not a chirp.... it seems like it only happens when the car is at idle or the throttle is BARELY depressed...
Of course, it is difficult to hear right now because the jackasses at my dealership have STILL, after more than 6 f'ing weeks, not fixed the fuel line rattle associated with the TSB. Apparently, the fuel line insulator is on back-order.
I'll tell you what, between the radio problems, and the fuel line rattle, and the dash vent rattles, and this strange grinding noise, I am not too satisfied with VW right now. I am driving a brand new car that cost me close to $30K and it rattles like a f'ing tin can. My 1999 328i with 75K miles that I sold to buy this GTI didn't have any of these quality problems... and it was an 8 year old car!
