Clicking Noise in passenger right rear near gas tank

I have a 2009 GTI with 2,000 miles on it and have been hearing this intermitted loud clicking noise near the right rear area of my car. Sounds kind of like a turn signal clicking noise or a clock ticking noise but it's not a uniform steady noise and mainly does this when the engine is cold and I'm about 2 blocks away from my house in the morning. The clicks vary in speed...sometimes faster and sometimes slower clicking. I suspect it might be a fuel pump noise. Anyone else experience this?

Both my MkV did it and my MkVI does it. Perfectly normal.
Same with mine... Its the fuel system pressurising. No worries its normal. You just hear it clearer in colder weather. If you pay attention it will dissapear once the car gets fully warmed up.

Silva, change the mount... That rattle is horrendus!!!!!! I had it for a few weeks a couple of months back....

Thanks mine only does it when its really cold as well
JusT a heater, don't worry about it
Are we still talking about this?
I have a similar issue, but it occurs while dirving down a not so smooth road. I have been able to conclude that its my glovebox. I cant hear anything if I leave it open. I cant get rid of the noise but I atleast know what it is. You might wanna give that a try.
I have the same problem, usually in the mornings on my way to work, or if i have less than 1/4 tank of gas ill start to hear it but if the car is warmed up properly or if i have more gas i never hear it, on bad roads or smooth, I think its just the pressurizing of the tank but it scared me the first few times i heard it, I got scared my fuel pump was going. Then id have to force myself to pay for HPFP by APR or something, which i might do anyway haha
What you're describing happens in my 06' MKV as well, usually only on cold mornings when I cold start the engine. After the engine warms up, it's gone. I wouldn't worry unless you're experiencing other issues in addition to it.
I am wondering if any of you ever figured out what the actual issue was? My '08 is doing the exact same thing that the original poster described, but it seems like it is awfully loud to be the fuel pump pressurizing.
if its a loud "bump" sort of noise its the fuel pump... the fuel pump is under pretty high pressure as is the whole system this is why its an astonishingly loud noise

I'm glad to hear I'm not the only one with this issue. It was beginning to bug me a lot and I'm glad it isn't anything to serious. I asked the dealer at 500 miles and they said they didn't know. I asked around the forums and some suggested it was my suspension...SMH

It is a normal fuel pump pressurizing noise. My car is now 4 1/2 years old, still makes the same noise in the morning for a few seconds as is did since car was new, and have never had a failure.
My mk5 gti is doing it too. It’s certainly coming from the fuel pump. As people have previously said, it happens with in 2 blocks from my house on a cold start. So much that i had my gf sit in the back and listen and she pointed directly at the seat above the fuel pump….and she didnt know any thing was under the seat lol any one get this solved yet?

You could replace the LPFP but likely will not be a long term solution. When was the last time you replaced fuel filter?

If it's an uneven sound, I think it's most likely the problem you mentioned.

The fuel pump may not be the main cause.

That's right, get the cleaning done first to see what the specific cause is.
