Is there any reason why I couldn't swap my MKIII instrument cluster with one from a regular Golf? They appear to be exactly the same size, indications, etc. with the black background, not white like my 97 GTI? Rebuilding one is $100.

Do you just want to change the color? Because if that's the case, you can buy different gauge faces and what not from websites like andysautosports.

It's a 2.0 I have seen that you can send the cluster off and get it reworked but thought I might try one from a 97 jetta or golf.

My GTI is a 97. It is a 2.0 and I have noticed that a golf 96 and even a 97 jetta is exactly the same aside from background color. Think it will operate alright? I know about the legality issues, etc. but will it work?

As long as the new cluster is from an obd2 2.0 mk3 it will work
