Cathophoresis: Part of the Volkswagen paint protection process in which the unpainted metal car body is electrically charged, then immersed in a bath of paint primer that carries an opposite and attractive charge. This creates a stronger bond between metal and paint and substantially increases the amount of primer that is applied for a heavier, more durable finish. As a result of this process, up to 250 percent more protective paint adheres to the bodyshell compared to a body that has been treated using the conventional "dip" application process.
