Cant rev past 4000 rpms

havnt drivin my car in about a month, and will be out of town for about 4 months, when i toke my car around i couldnt get it to rev above 4000, it will it 4000 then sputter. i did it in the first few mins of it being on and in N. any ideas what it could be ???
