I am contemplating getting the gti this coming winter. Do you think there will be a lot of used new 06 GTIs out there by then? And even if there are, do you think the price will be much cheaper than the 22k sticker price right now?

i dont think youll be too lucky finding a used MkV, i havent heard any complaints on this forum yet, everyone seems pleased with their car. even if you are able to find one, i dont think itll be too much cheaper than 22k, bc hardly anyone is getting a stock GTI.

there is nothing wrong with a stock GTi. But when you are already financing 22grr might as well go all out whats another 5grr ya know

plus even though 22 is the sticker price you will have a hard time finding them at that price VWs are not "No-Haggle" cars so prices may very from dealer to dealer. Plus there is going to be a high demand for these cars for qutie some time so no dealer will take a low ball offer when there are other people willing to pay "too much" for the car

Actually the dealer in Columbus, Ohio had a used one on the lot. I guess the guy bought it for his daughter and she didn't want stick. Talk about messing that deal up. At least if he bought another one with DSG he would be getting two FAST in the mail. But I do agree that you will be hard pressed to find the GTI you want on the used car lot come winter. I am picking up mine tomorrow at a dealer out of state because they had about 30 of them in their inventory than most of the dealers that only had half a dozen on the lot. Plus they were more willing to deal too on the price. Can't beat that!

I'll be blunt. I haggled. I won.

I went to 12 dealers before buying mine in So. Cali. I don't think this is the case with other States but California does not have that many MkV GTI's for sale. -_-;;

I wanted package 0 gray, all 12 said sorry no gray. I kept getting responses that there was either 0 or 1 gray in the whole state, and they would have to bring one in out of state. I held out for a gray... and a dealer approached me saying that they just recieved a Reflex Silver package 1, but can give it to me for a package 0 price since they couldn't find the color I wanted. BRING IT ON, I bought the car that day. The car still had blue sponge bumpers and stickers on it... fresh out of the box. I was the first one to take a test drive on it... and lets just say I couldn't let go of the handle.

Point is, if there is a reason for you to not buy a car you want, it better be good because in the end you can make the dealership adjust to that reason and make you satisfied. If you really don't have that good of a reason and just playing hardball (i.e if you think the car is too pricey even though no where else will give it to you for cheaper), then start searching for another car that is more affordable in general.

On a side note.... I did see some Mk5s on eBay... might want to check em out. Good Luck!

Every dealer i went to had mostly white but i wanted black on black i finally found it 3 dealers later.

i struggled to find a silver package 2 with 17" rims in a 6-speed. i called or emailed about 10 dealers. 1 dealer had the package 1 but everything else, and i insisted on the package 2, i hated the package 1 seats (no disrespect for the people that like them)
finally i found a dealer that promised to do a dealer located and give it to me for the price i wanted...and i only had to wait 1 full day for the car.

i had one dealer try to bully me into buying a black one with everything i wanted, and refused to do the dealer trade for the silver at the price i wanted...but they would for the black...i strongly considered it, but decided against it for a personal reason about the ownership of the dealership. it was only a couple of days later that i found the silver one with exactly what i wanted...i didnt care which radio, xm or serius, but i got xm, which made me very happy because i was a longtime O&A fan so i got to listen again.
