Buying a 2001 Volkswagen GTI VR6

I am heavily interested in purchasing this 2001 GTI and I have heard from many people to go for it and fix it up and from other people to not touch it with a 10 foot pile I’m going to send all the details I have at my disposal. I was looking for some opinions on what to do! I am purchasing it for $850 they said it needs both front axles, a clutch realignment, and it leaks oil. This is my first project car purchase and am eager to hear some advice on what to do!
