i purchased my 2011 gti base model a couple months ago, the day i got it i noticed the drivers side low beam was not working. took it out and put it back in and it worked. Now on and off it stops working and I have to remove the plastic bulb socket and put it back in for it to work.. Anyone know why it does this? Or how to fix it
The problem sounds mechanical, i.e. an electrical connection is failing.
If a loose contact is arcing, you risk damaging the controller on halogen
or the ballast on a HID.
Did you happen to note the manufacturer of the bulb?
Some off-brand bulbs have been known
to have ill-fitting bases causing similar issues.
You should remove the headlight fixture from the car.
Yes, that means pulling the front bumper, it is much easier than it sounds,
as long as you have a safe way to lift the front of the car.
(Pulling the bumper is factory procedure simply to change a bulb,
so that a full inspection is performed to avoid come-backs.)
