ok this is my first post on this website. anyway, i got a 2001 gti glx a few months ago. 127XXX. all stock. nothing wrong except airbag light fault. the other night i drove from milwaukee area to chicago. and on the way back i noticed the check engine light was on. i checked with a scanner and found 4 codes. > p0340, p0300, p0304, p0301. when i start the car i can smell the gas almost instantly. the exhaust sounds louder and worse. and also the gas pedal seems the sorta vibrate when reving the engine a bit and is also less responsive. i havent been driving it at all since and need to find out how to fix it or what could be causing it. any information would be useful and thank you in advance.

the only thing i think could of caused this was that i spun the wheels a bit at a toll booth and revved the engine a bit through tunnels but not even alot.

Have some one clear those codes. Those are miss fire codes. Bad spark plugs, coil packs can cause those. Have the cleared and see if they come back

Ok i did what you said. i erased the 4 codes and started driving again. the CEL came back on and i got p0340 again. im going to change the spark plugs and do an oil change for the first time. its been about 4600 miles. the oil is a little lower than it should be when i checked it also.

edit: ive heard that the problem could be that the tensioner chain could have skipped a tooth. that would make sense i think because my car has alot less power. and also i think what caused it was when i spun the tires in 1st. do you think this is a possibility?

i did the epoxy fix on the coilpack to fix the cracks. my engine still sounds like ****. you can hear a clicking noise. and the engine rumbles.it is pretty loud around 2000rpms. any other ideas?

Epoxy fix isn't a guarantee and you should still replace the coil pack.

you sure that would be the problem. i think it sounds like something else but not sure. i made a video of it.

yeah but i dont think it is the coilpack. it makes a really weird noise. i made another thread(idk why) with the video of my car running. maybe you will be able to tell if thats the problem or not.
You could always pull the plugs and wires and see if they spark outside of the motor. Though, this is dangerous so be warned.
here is the link to the sound of my engine. could you try to see why it sounds like that?
