Hey guys, new to the board...I was browsing through the downloadable wallpapers on the site and was looking at the one titled "Top Speed Wallpaper" that shows the guages and noticed that the "1" along the bottom of the center info panel is highlighted. I'm assuming that the numbers at the bottom are to show what gear one is in while driving so why is "1" highlighted if the car is going 160? Please correct me if I'm wrong. thanks

I think all governators are myths that salespeople tell people so that they don't test the limits of their vehicle.
I think it is so weird, even the car magazines report that there is a speed limiter at 130mph. But I consitently get reports of top speeds from 130 up to 150 stock. I don't think that this many people are stretching the truth about the top speed. I personally believe that VW is only putting limiters on a percentage of cars. This keeps them looking responsible to the public, but creates a buzz in the underground.

Sorry to burst anyones bubble, but the reason your speedometer is showing over 130 is because it is inaccurate. I've found that it is generally off by 5-10% ie when you are going 100, the speedometer will say you are going 110. If you want to see how much, you can see your actual speed on the climate control system by accessing a service menu.

While holding the Econ button, press the button that sends air circulation up, then turn the left temperature dial until the left temperature screen shows -190, then turn the fan dial once to the right and it shows -191. This will then show you your actual speed in mph on the right side temperature screen.

I spoke to my dealer about this and he has told me that this affects all GTI's and VW does not have a fix for it yet.
