Hello,
I recently bought a 97 GTI and I need some advice.
It's a 2.0 non-turbo and it didn't come with an owners manual so I need some help.

First, what grade oil should I be using when I give it an oil change?

Also, is 94 octane required for non-turbo GTIs? It's got some 220KM on it so I want this car to be maintained. I don't care for the extra few bucks here and there if it means a few more months or years with my GTI.

So what kind of oil should I be using and what grade gasoline should I be feeding my new buddy? Any other maintenance tips would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks for your time, I'll probably frequent this forum for helpful advice and some friendly banter.

Cheers

Depends on where you live. If you live in a climate that has fluctuating temperature, 5W-40 would probably be best. As far as gas goes, it can run on 87 but premium is recommended. Maintenance is simple. Change air filter and oil about every 3000 miles, plugs every like 30000 miles, etc. Have fun with your new toy!
