So I got a 2003 Volkswagen GTI (AWP engine code), I'm looking for a decent priced intercooler kit for my car. I looked at the APR kit and man is it expensive! Did anyone else go through this? Or would buying a generic intercooler and making my own piping be good alternative? thanks!

I know, it's a noob question...but, is our MKVI setup with a stock intercooler? If so, where is it mounted? If not, has anyone added one and noticed large gains due to cooler temps of pressurized air?
